What is your favorite ouran high school host club episode and why??

This is the hardest question for any fandom, but after some thought, I’d have to say it’s a tie between episodes 20 (The Door the Twins Opened) and 21 (Until the Day it Becomes a Pumkin). I love the twins and both are my top favorite characters because they grow so much thought the series.

In episode 20, we’re introduced to their childhood, both the good and the bad parts of it. As children, they realize it’s nearly impossible for other to tell them apart, as a maid they adored stole from them and gave them that belief (until Haruhi comes along, that is). Through junior high, they use that knowledge to their advantage, thinking if others can’t tell them apart, they aren’t worth their time. They think that as Tamaki comes into the picture. But as Tamaki continues to gain their trust with his many failed attempts to tell them apart, they begin to realize it’s time to open up their doors and let others passed their walls. As they open the door to Music Room Three you see they’re trying to let others in. It’s a huge step in their character development, even if it’s small at first.

Episode 21 grabbed my attention with Kaoru’s narration, as it’s more towards his character arc and I’m a sucker for Kao and he will always be my number one favorite character. Kaoru is afraid of change and since joining the Host Club it’s been nothing but that. With the never ending chaos, constant socialization, the seperation anxiety to being apart from his brother, and learning how friendship works—they’re just making it all up as they go. In the beginning he explains how close the club is to a family and everyone has their part. More towards the middle, Kaoru gets separated from Hikaru and although Hikaru is more anxious about the situation, Kaoru is worried. During this part of the episode you really get to see Kaoru’s true character and not the persona he has around his twin. He’s loyal, kind, and for the most part, understanding. At the end, after reuniting with Hikaru, Kaoru realizes Hikaru is becoming his own person. And even though he’s afraid of losing his brother, he’s willing the let his brother become his own person and be happy. Hikaru, on the other hand, is still afraid of letting go. Even though the episode shows more of Kaoru’s character rather than Hikaru’s, it’s a beautiful representation of their characters, character development, and fears.

I really love both these episodes so much and it’s super hard to pick just one. I may actually make a post about this in the future but idk
